Medical Care/Health Insurance

Get an overview of the health system, including health insurance requirements and where to best receive medical care. Below is a brief excerpt from this section:

Spain offers a good public health care system that is often considered among the best in the world for its quality and infrastructure. Employees who contribute to the Spanish social security system and their dependents are eligible for care at low or no cost. The national health care system has two levels: primary care and specialized care.

The first step toward receiving care under Spain’s public health care system is to receive a Foreigner Identification Number (Número de Identificación de Extranjero or NIE). Spanish employers can request this number for their foreign employees, but independent professionals can obtain the NIE by submitting a personal application at any Immigration Office (Oficina de Extranjeros) of the National Police (Policía Nacional).

This is just a brief sample of the extensive information in the GoinGlobal Spain Career Guide, which is carefully researched and regularly updated by local career experts.
