Carrefour sees hiring spree in China
BEIJING, May 16 (UPI) -- France's Carrefour SA
plans to recruit tens of thousands of new employees to support its future
expansions in the next three years.The biggest overseas retailer in China will
recruit 3,000 senior managers and 40,000 regular employees to work for its new
outlets, said Meng Yiyan, the human resource executive of Carrefour China.
Carrefour has opened 75 outlets since it
entered the Chinese market in 1995 and, with sales of $2.18 billion, became the
No. 1 foreign retailer in China last year, the Oriental Morning Post said
Tuesday.
"Carrefour will demand a lot of high-quality
managers to meet with the fierce competition," said Shi Rongle, the president of
Carrefour China.
The company signed a contract with China-Europe
International Business School yesterday, saying that it will donate $128,410 to
the school over the next three years and recruit elite master's in business
administration students from it.
Shi said that the company hasn't decided on the
number of outlets it will open over the next three years yet, but the employee
recruitment plan can support the operation of 80 outlets in the country.
