RUSSIA - 2008 Work Permit Quota Approved

The Russian Government has set the national work permit quota for 2008 at
1,828,245. This figure, based on Russian employers' reported needs for 2008,
encompasses all types of work permits for all locations in Russia, including
permits for low-skilled workers from former Soviet (Commonwealth of Independent
States/CIS)
countries, and highly skilled workers from visa countries.
The work permit quota for highly skilled workers has doubled from last year's
quota to 672,304. The quota for low-skilled workers has been significantly
reduced from the 2007 quota of six million to 1,155,941.
The number of work permits reserved for the Moscow region is not yet known.
