UNITED KINGDOM: Finger Scans Now Required for
All UK Visa Applicants from India
By Littler Mendelson
Effective December 12, 2007, the government will
require all visa applicants from India to undergo finger scans and take digital
photographs at the VFS Visa Application Centre.
The new requirement follows the introduction of
biometric data collection at British representations around the world.
Because of the new requirements, applications
will now take longer to process. With the introduction of biometrics to India,
however, nationals of that country will now be able to apply for longer-term
visas to the UK.
The UK Visa Application Centres are located in
12 locations across India, including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai,
Cochin, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jalandhar, Kolkata, Mubai (north and south) and Pune.
