Excerpted from the Peru Career Guide
Overall, the financial services industry is weak in Peru; it represents only 25 to 30 percent of GDP. The majority of residents do not use banking services, and even fewer have insurance policies. There are fewer than 150,000 home mortgages in a country of more than 30 million residents. Banking and financial services remains a largely untapped market.
Nevertheless, the industry is showing signs of growth, particularly an increase in merger and acquisitions. Demand for insurance policies is expected to increase this year by as much as 12 percent, potentially creating opportunities in the sector.
Certification / Education Requirements
To be able to work as a professional in finance, investments and audits, the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) is often required. In Peru, the law requires each company have a percentage of professionals with the CFA certification for the efficient development and good management of the financial sector.
