Hiring Trends

Not-for-Profit Leads Demand
Perhaps surprisingly, Australia’s not-for-profit sector is seeing the greatest demand for CEOs and general managers. Non-profit employers are seeking executives with experience delivering key programs of transformation and organizational growth. State government and statutory authorities are driving demand for interim CFOs and other finance leadership positions.

Candidates from the UK are highly sought after as they typically have around five years more experience in e-commerce and mobile applications compared to local candidates. More candidates are needed from entry through to senior levels.

Certification and Education Requirements

Most management and consulting professionals have an Australian bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent. There is no legislative requirement for registration of managerial and consulting professionals in Australia; however, the profession tends to regulate itself by recruiting professionals who have gone through assessment by the Australian Institute of Management (AIM). The Australian Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs has designated AIM as the national assessing authority for a broad range of management, administration, professional and associate professional occupations.

Candidates wishing to work as managers or consultants in Australia can complete an assessment through the AIM. They need to fill out an application for Pre-Application Skills Assessment (PASA) and send it to AIM with the required documentation and assessment fee. Information about the documents required and the current fee is on the PASA form. For more information about skills assessments by AIM, contact the institute. A list of offices is available at http://www.aim.com.au/about/divisions.html.
