Networking is becoming an increasingly important tool to find a job and manage a career. A recent survey indicates 55 percent of Dutch jobseekers refer to online vacancy databases as the main channel in their search for jobs. Second is open sollicitaties (speculative applications) at 38 percent, followed by using one’s personal network at 34 percent. Advertisements in newspapers are used by 30 percent and seeking jobs through social media by more than 20 percent. (As revealed by the total of these percentages, many jobseekers use more than one channel.)
