Excerpted from the Japan Career Guide
Japan is Asia’s most established IT power. The country accounts for 12 percent of global IT hardware production, and is the world's second-largest producer of software products after the US, according to SERI Quarterly. Japan has become the main supplier of IT components to Asia. But lately that dominance is weakening. Japan's IT device industry is declining, although its electronics parts industry has maintained a strong competitive edge.
Areas of Job Promise
While the IT hiring outlook in Japan remains ‘somewhat mixed,’ according to specialist recruiter Hays, the most optimistic hiring expectations are for experienced financial IT professionals who understand both the IT and the business side and can communicate with off-shore teams to implement key systems. While new technologies have led to increased demand for the appropriate talent, consistent and underlying demand has remained for core technical experts. Contract roles have also increased in number as many companies become more open to this method of recruitment.
