Excerpted from the Hong Kong Career Guide

Over the last 12 months, employment in engineering and supply chain have grown steadily following increased industry activity. The demand for skilled and experienced professionals is being driven by international companies expanding their sourcing operations and developing new products in Asia, according to Michael Page International.

Areas of Job Promise

Construction

Demand is increasing for skilled professionals, and employers are proactively seeking industry talent, according to recruiting firm Michael Page International.

  • Facilities and Project Management: The highest demand is for skills in facilities management and project management to coordinate expansion of local companies. Experience in design and store development is especially needed as the domestic retail industry strengthens. Demand will increase project and design managers as planning for regional construction projects in Hong Kong.

  • Infrastructure projects: With several major infrastructure projects at their peaks, Hays reports a major shortage of civil construction professionals. Demand is likely to increase as a result of additional projects, including the Macau-Zhuhai-Hong Kong Bridge and two Macau casino projects.
