Excerpted from the Denmark Career Guide

Danish industries of major importance include cleantech (wind power, bio-energy, electric vehicles), ICT (wireless and mobile technology, software, acoustics), life sciences (bio-tech, med-tech) and maritime (shipping, offshore and advanced maritime technology), all of which offer possibilities for engineers.

A global study by UNESCO, Engineering: Issues, challenges and opportunities for development, underscores the shortage of engineers. Denmark predicts it will lack approximately 14,000 engineers by 2020.

Areas of Job Promise

The emerging R&D field of cleantech offers a particularly ripe job prospect for Denmark’s engineers. Denmark is a global leader in the industry with more than 1,100 companies, 60,000 employees and more than 12 billion EUR in export value. It strives to be completely free of dependency on fossil fuels by 2050. This is one of the fastest-growing industry clusters in Denmark, with exports expected to quadruple over the next five years. This is good news for growing job prospects for mechanical, industrial, oil and gas, electrical and environmental engineers in Denmark. Also, Denmark’s vast shipping and maritime industries offer engineering opportunities.
