Job Search Overview

While it is not impossible for a foreigner to find a job in Denmark, it is difficult and takes time. Non-Danish speakers are at a disadvantage when applying for jobs as Danish is the working language of most companies. The majority of job listings are also in Danish; however, large Danish and international companies sometimes advertise in English. Biogen, Dell, DaimlerChrysler, IBM, Nokia and many other multinational companies are present in Denmark and use English as their corporate language. In recent years, some Danish companies such as Carlsberg, Danisco, Danfoss, Lundbeck, Novo and Nordea have even adopted English as their corporate language, making it a bit easier for foreigners who speak English to come work in Denmark.

Career Fairs/Events

While job fairs are not common in Denmark, many Danish companies do recruit at career events outside Denmark. Jobseekers attending these events have the opportunity to meet with recruiters, hiring managers and employers who want to fill positions quickly. These events, often free of charge, are a convenient way to interact with employer representatives and ask questions about specific openings, benefits and compensation in settings that are less formal than the typical job interview. Most job fairs are advertised in newspapers, but many are now listed online. They usually are held in hotels or convention centers. The atmosphere generally is less stressful, but still professional and conducive to interviewing. Bring copies of your résumé/CV and dress professionally.
