Tourism and Leisure

Austria is known for soaring alpine vistas and great skiing, which are a welcome respite from the world’s economic woes. Travel and tourism are an important part of Austria's service sector. Happily, tourism in Austria is also soaring again, after a few rocky years.

Recent statistics reveal Austria welcomed a record number of holiday guests last year, even in a challenging economic environment. The number of arrivals in Austria rose by 3.6 percent last year reaching an all-time high of 34.62 million visitors. International guests accounted for around two-thirds of arrivals, which represents an increase of 4.5 percent. Nearly 126 million guests stayed overnight in Austria, an increase of 0.8 percent from the previous year.
