Excerpted from the Sweden Career Guide
Over the last decade, Sweden's financial services sector has experienced many changes and rapid growth. While established companies have expanded operations, including expansion into international markets, new companies have entered as well. Furthermore, banking and insurance operations have combined, with large banks developing their own life insurance operations and large insurance companies creating banks of their own.
Areas of Job Promise
Private equity
Nordic private equity (PE) firms are hiring in response to a ‘hot’ market, according to the Swedish Private Equity and Venture Capital Association. Buyout investments in Swedish portfolio companies recently reached a historically high 23.7 billion SEK. Swedish PE-owned companies employ 180,000 workers. While PE teams in the Nordics tend to be small, often consisting of just the founder and an associate, recently firms have been selectively hiring one or two additional associates, usually middle or junior-level workers with good transactional and execution skills. Two to three years' worth of deal experience is usually required, and candidates with backgrounds in mergers and acquisitions are especially sought after.
