Eighty of the 100 world's largest multinationals have offices in The Netherlands, mainly special holdings and finance companies. Last year, foreign investment in The Netherlands created more than 4,300 jobs and 41 international headquarters. Most of the 193 foreign investment projects were from Asia or North America.
Last year, 122 new international companies established themselves in the greater Amsterdam region, 29 of which are active in the financial industry.
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and family businesses are, however, the engine driving Dutch business. These comprise 99.6 percent of The Netherlands' companies and account for the vast majority of Dutch employment. Nearly 40 percent of Dutch SMEs are involved in export activities.
Areas of Job Promise
The Hague has joined the World Trade Center (WTC) network with the establishment of a WTC in the Prinsenhof office building. The Hague WTC is open to companies in the WTC network and to local companies. The arrival of the WTC in The Hague will create new jobs with a focus on international business trade.
E-commerce is on the rise in The Netherlands; no fewer than 6,000 new companies last year were online retail outlets, representing more than 35 percent of the companies in this sector. Amazon.com is finally coming to The Netherlands this year, with the website expected to launch in the summer.

International Advertising Association, Dutch Chapter (IAA)
IAA is the largest and most popular organization for professionals in the field of marketing communication in The Netherlands, with approximately 300 active members. IAA represents the interests of the communication branch and offers a platform for networking. IAA represents people who work as marketing or product managers for advertisers, as creative or account employees at advertising agencies, at media agencies, media companies or as contractors in this business. IAA is part of an international network with its headquarters in New York.
