Competition is fierce for engineering candidates in The Netherlands and across Europe; although engineering candidates have nearly doubled between 2000 and 2010, that is still not enough to satisfy demand from employers across the EU.
Areas of Job Promise
The European Aeronautics, Defense and Space Company (EADS) states there are 12,000 job openings for aeronautical engineers in Europe every year.
Due to a thousand years spent shaping its environment, The Netherlands is a world leader in advanced environmental technologies. In particular, The Netherlands specializes in waste processing, water purification, soil remediation and environmental management and consultancy.
With 25 percent of the country, 60 percent of the population and 70 percent of economic output produced below sea level, the Dutch are experts in high tech flood protection and hydraulic engineering. They are taking no chances, especially with climate change. Earlier this year, bad storms caused water levels to reach a 14-year high. The Flood Control 2015 program aims to develop advanced forecasting- and decision-supporting systems.
