Overview

When applying for a job in Finland, send both a curriculum vitae (CV) and a cover letter to the prospective employer. The cover letter should interpret the CV and add a personal touch; it should complement, not duplicate, the CV. It should include references to future plans and goals, while the CV presents the candidate’s history.

Cover Letter Guidelines and Samples

If possible, address the cover letter to a specific contact (name, company and address). The letter should explain the applicant’s reasons for interest in the specific organization and identify his/her most relevant skills or experiences for the position. The letter should also take a future-oriented approach and include a personal touch.

Résumé / CV Guidelines And Samples

Finnish recruiters often pay attention to the layout and clarity of the CV. It is important to ensure all facts in cover letters and CVs, such as dates, names and titles, are correct; honesty and accuracy are highly valued assets in Finland. Facts about education and work experience may be verified with employers and schools.

For young professionals in Finland, one page is the maximum length for a résumé/CV. It may be longer for more experienced professionals. A photo is not mandatory, unless otherwise stated in the job advertisement; however, most Finns will include a picture of themselves, and a scanned photo inserted in the résumé/CV may serve as an advantage by making the CV more visually memorable.
