Haiti Nationals allowed to live and work in the USA

2010-02-13
by workpermit.com

US Citizenship and Immigration Services has announced that eligible Haitian nationals already in the United States on or before the Haiti earthquake may apply for Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Janet Napolitano Secretary of Homeland Security recently designated TPS for eligible Haitian nationals as the Haiti earthquake of 12 January 2010 makes it difficult and unsafe for Haiti nationals to go back to Haiti.

Haiti nationals who were in the US on or before 12 January 2010 when the earthquake struck will not be removed from the US and will be able to apply to work in the United States. There will be a 180 day registration period ending on 20 July 2010 to enable Haiti nationals to apply for TPS. Haiti nationals who entered the United States after 12 January 2010 will not be allowed to apply for TPS.

Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is currently also available for nationals of El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Somalia, and Sudan.
