Ministry of Home Affairs Launches Centralized Immigration Processing

2012-06-07
by Fragomen

India has launched its long-awaited Immigration, Visa and Foreigners Registration & Tracking (IVFRT) Central Processing Office in New Delhi. The IVFRT will act as a hub for all of India’s immigration matters. Its core functions will be to monitor and track the entry and exit of foreign nationals, standardize all immigration-related forms and processes, and facilitate data sharing between India’s consular posts abroad, ports of entry, Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRROs) and Foreigners Registration Offices (FROs).

The IVFRT office in New Delhi is now open, but the overall centralization project will be implemented in stages over the next several years. All of India’s immigration-related offices will eventually feature online application forms and support portals, dedicated phone services to address appeals and grievances, and email and SMS services for information dissemination, application status checks and feedback. Immigration offices will be expected to meet specific processing time goals for each visa category.
