Excerpted from the USA Career Guide
Interviews in the United States may take several forms, depending on the
company and the circumstances. Often a "panel" format is used,
where a number of managers are present. These meetings sometimes take three
or four hours. On other occasions, an interview may take place over a meal.
Those where exchanges occur by television (videoconferences) are becoming
more frequent, and are particularly helpful if long distances are involved.
Interviews
begin with introductions and firm handshakes, five or ten minutes of casual
conversation, and then it is down to business. Interviewers want to know
if you are a team player, a hard worker, creative, and concerned for the
customer, and will ask you questions along these lines. Be natural, be
honest, and be enthusiastic.
If you do
not speak English well, have a native-speaker review your resume, and
help you plan clear responses to possible questions. And finally, make
sure that you research the company, to understand its history, customers
and competition.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete guide.
