:: Accounting & Finance |
Excerpted from the USA Career Guide
The demand for accounting and finance professionals is strong. Given the
uncertain economy, companies need employees who can implement cost containment
and cash flow improvement initiatives. Hiring is expected to be most active
in the healthcare and manufacturing industries, but will vary by region
and by the time of year. (Employment for accountants usually swells in the
first few months of the year prior to income-tax season.) Mergers, acquisitions,
and corporate downsizing can adversely affect these jobs, but the need for
financial expertise will keep the profession growing. Most jobs require
at least a bachelors degree in accounting or a related field.
Securities Industry Association
The SIA is the leading trade organization for Wall Street and financial
services professionals. Its members are investment banks, securities underwriters,
and dealers in stocks and bonds. The group provides a unified voice in legislation,
regulation, and public information about the industry and sponsors management
development programs, conducts roundtables, and holds several annual conferences.
Its website has a wealth of background material on securities regulation
and industry best practices, as well as a library of investor educational
publications, many available free of charge.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete guide.
