The banking industry has reported positive employment in recent years. Total sector employment is around 110,200 people. One bank which detailed its banking employment practices is El Monte in the Andalusa region. The bank recently hired 193 staff (eight percent of the country's new banking employees) – more than the average of 140 new employees per year. Of the 193 new employees, 120 were women. Men represent 61.5 percent of the overall staff of the bank, but account for 45.4 percent of the employees younger than 35. El Monte expects the number of women working for the bank to reach that of men. El Monte, which operates countrywide, has a staff of 2,300 serving a network of 376 branches and 515 cash machines.
