   :: Resume/CVs

Excerpted from the Japan Career Guide

When applying for a position in Japan, you have a choice of two acceptable types of resume. If you are approaching a Japanese company, complete the rirekisho in handwritten form in Japanese; if you are not fluent in the language, have your information translated. The rirekisho uses the traditional two-page format, divided into personal information and work experience, and requires an attached photo. This official form is readily available in stationery stores. If you are applying to the international department of a Japanese company, use the resume that is closer to the international or American style. Type it in English on good bond paper, and include no attachments.

Note: Given recent changes in the mobility of the Japanese workforce and the opening up of Japanese companies to mid-career recruitment, it is now becoming common for more senior applicants to attach an international style resume or at least an explanation of position responsibilities and achievements to the traditional rirekisho.

This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete guide.
