Excerpted from the Italy Career Guide
Non-verbal communication is extremely important in Italy. On the job,
it is necessary to make eye contact and have a firm handshake. People
who do not make eye contact are considered to be hiding something. In
addition, Italians have little or no concept of personal space. Being
in close proximity with someone is considered a sign of affection or camaraderie.
Italians are very conscious of how they dress and work to present a bella
figura, or good image. In general, people living in Italy dress in a formal manner
and always carry business or calling cards for use in an introduction.
With the concept of bella figura in mind, when making presentations
in Italy, remember that your materials must look attractive: binders,
overheads projections, brochures, and the like must all be stylish and
inviting.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete Italy guide.
