   :: Financial Considerations

Excerpted from the Germany Career Guide

Germany has a high cost of living. Of course, some towns and cities are more expensive than others. For instance, living in Munich is significantly more costly than living in Rostock or the Ruhr area.

Housing prices are extremely high in some regions. Generally, the most expensive areas are those where there are high expatriate populations, such as Munich, Frankfurt, and Hamburg, and to a lesser extent, Düsseldorf, Cologne, and Berlin.

Keep in mind that many landlords prefer long-term leasers, so tenants may have to pay inflated rates for shorter-term leases. Also, renters may be required to have renters’ insurance and liability insurance and to pay extra fees, such as pet deposits.

This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete Germany guide.
