Excerpted from the Finland Career Guide
Finland has a technology-oriented
culture. It is at the top globally for cellular phone and Internet
penetration per capita. More than 85 percent of Finns own a cellular
phone (cell phone "giant" Nokia is Finland’s largest company), more
than 60 percent of Finns have access to the Internet and 38 percent
use the Internet regularly--either at home, at work or through a
local institution, such as a library.
A recent report published by the UN
development organization UNDP ranked Finland technologically as the
most advanced country in the world. Specifically, two criteria put
Finland ahead of the United States, which ranked second: Internet
penetration and the population’s above-average know-how.
Additionally, a recent Global Information Technology Report
published by World Economic Forum ranked Finland first in the use
and application of information and communications technologies (ICT).
According to the report, IT is used in Finland by companies, public
authorities and the general public more than in any other of the 82
countries surveyed. Recent surveys ranked Finland as number one
globally, based on what it called a "well-managed macroeconomy."
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete guide.
