Excerpted from the Finland Career Guide
Despite difficulties in the financial services
sector and a general economic slowdown, accountants continue to experience a
positive employment environment. A changing regulatory landscape and
increased attention to corporate governance has increased the need for
experienced accountants at small local, mid-sized regional and large
national and multi-national accounting consultancies. Accountants in the
private sector also are in demand, particularly for workers in financial
management and corporate finance, accounting systems and financial planning
and control.
Large firms continue to dominate the Nordic
marketplace due in no small part to the belief among larger companies that they
need to employ a well-known accounting brand. However, some observers believe
that mid-sized firms, particularly those that specialize in tax-related matters,
will benefit as the economy improves. The implementation of International
Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley
provisions for companies registered with the US Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC) should provide an ongoing source of work for firms. As a
result, many firms have stepped up recruiting efforts and staff turnover is
extremely low.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete guide.
