Excerpted from the Canada Career Guide

Canada’s oil patch is one sector that is seeing a huge surge in demand for engineers and geologists. A headline in one of Canada’s leading newspapers, The Globe and Mail, paints the picture vividly: "Oil Patch Turnaround Uncorks a Gusher of Jobs; Active Recruiting Has Taken the Place of Cyclical Job Cuts." Against a backdrop of rising oil and gases prices, Canadian employers in this sector are expected to increase salaries and compensation. "There has been quite an increase in salaries and compensation levels," says Scott Saxberg, president of Crescent Point Energy Trust, whose properties involve oil and gas. He also noted "a real shortage" of engineers with eight to 14 years experience. "People are getting over $100,000 a year now, versus probably $75,000 to $100,000 in the 1990s,” Saxberg stated.

Analysts are predicting huge job growth in the oil and natural gas industries over the next ten years, and this translates into the need for skilled workers – power specialist engineers, project engineers, geologists, chemists, geologists, technicians and managers.

This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete guide.
