They are courteous and respectful of women and older people, and men typically observe traditional actions of courtesy, such as holding a door open for a woman or offering their seat to an older person.

When speaking to a business acquaintance, a distance of two feet is acceptable. Any closer than this would be considered uncomfortable. Also, people living in Canada do not use extensive gesturing. It is considered impolite to point at someone, and it is considered rude to laugh or speak in a loud voice. It is quite acceptable, however, to wave to an acquaintance from a distance.
