   :: Interviewing Advice

Excerpted from the Belgium Career Guide

Belgians tend to be rather formal and shake hands at the beginning and end of each interaction, both when meeting someone for the first time and when leaving a meeting. It is expected that everyone in the party shake hands, including the secretary.

Flemish-speaking Belgians can be quite direct and frank, while French-speaking southerners can be somewhat more circumspect and indirect in their day-to-day conversations.

In an interview situation, the candidate should expect rather intense eye contact and a high degree of formality. He/she should address those in the interview party by title. With the differences in linguistics, it is important to be aware that titles may be different from region to region. Mr., Mrs. or Miss should be used for Flemish titles and Monsieur or Madame for French titles. First names should not be used until specifically invited to do so.

This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete guide.
