Excerpted from the Austria Career Guide
Mechanical engineering is an important sector of the Austrian engineering industry, and the Austrian government heavily supports mechanical engineering initiatives producing jobs in the process. About 90,000 people are employed in the sector.
Because some of the leading car producers operate out of Austria, there
are many engineering positions in the automobile industry. The emphasis
of many of these jobs is on engine production.
There is a growing need for skilled and experienced engineers, leading to
an increased demand for foreigners in these careers.
Österreichischer Ingenieurs
und Architekten Verein (OLAV; Society of Austrian Engineers and Architects)
The ÖIAV, or Österreichischer Ingenieurs und Architekten Verein,
was founded in 1848. ÖIAV is Austrias oldest union of engineers. It
offers support to its members, promotes young engineers, and has a positive
impact on the public view of engineering.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete guide.
