Excerpted from the Australia Career Guide
Following a five-year teacher
recruitment campaign, including scholarships and bargaining
agreement negotiations for higher wages, better working conditions
and greater career opportunities, the Australian government has
finally emerged from a shortage of teachers and others employed in
education.
The Department of Education and Training recently recruited only a
third of more than 1,000 graduates who applied for work. Some of the
appointments were for only two days a week in rural areas and others
were short-term jobs restricted to the first term. At the beginning
of a recent school year, all but two teaching jobs out of 20,000 had
been filled in the government’s 800 public schools.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete
Australia guide.
