Excerpted from the Australia Career Guide
Australia’s shortage of skilled
workers spans all sectors of the economy, including engineers,
creating many opportunities for job seekers. The Olivier Internet
Job Index, which monitors online job advertisements, recently found
the engineering sector enjoyed a 73 percent growth in jobs over the
prior year. Government reports also point to a positive job market
for those with engineering skills. They predict very good job market
prospects for engineering managers across industries - as the
Australian population ages, companies are finding it harder to
replace experienced, mature employees. The job report also finds
good employment prospects for civil, chemical, industrial and
aeronautical engineers, but only average prospects for electrical
and electronics engineers, mining and materials engineers. The job
prospects for civil, chemical, industrial and aeronautical engineers
are not expected to come from intrinsic industry growth but rather
from high vacancy levels. The Recruitment and Consulting Services
Association found in a survey of professional engineers that
non-building professional engineering skills are in the shortest
supply followed by non-building engineering associates and
technicians, and electrical trades.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete
Australia guide.
