Living
in South Korea means adapting somewhat to the local culture.
In general, gift-giving in Korea is not as formal as in some other countries,
such as Japan, but it is a way of life. When going to Korea on business,
you must bring gifts for all you will see, and the general rule is pastries
for office staff, good quality corporate logo items (all the same) for
business associates, and a special, thoughtful, and somewhat personalized
gift for the key person you will be working with. Give your gifts at the
end of the first meeting, as a sign of your sincerity and best wishes.
You will receive a farewell gift at your last meeting in Korea before
you leave to go home, or when you give your gift. When Koreans visit your
country, they will also bring you a gift, and before they leave, you should
give them a gift.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete Korea guide.
