Prices in Finland, particularly Helsinki,
have risen dramatically over the past few years. In the most recent
expatriate cost of living survey prepared by investment bank UBS,
Helsinki’s average cost of living is now the seventh highest
worldwide. Expatriates from North America will feel the effect the
most, considering the steep rise in the Euro against the US and
Canadian dollars. Compared to average prices for expatriates in New
York, average prices are presently 16.5 percent higher in Helsinki.
Wage levels are high in Finland. According
to the UBS survey, average wages in Helsinki are tied for seventh
highest worldwide. Wages in Finland are lower than Denmark and
Norway, but higher than in neighboring Sweden. Average gross wages
in Helsinki are 3.6 percent higher than New York and average net
wages in Helsinki are 8.7 percent higher than New York, according to
the survey.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete Finland guide.
