Excerpted from the Canada Career Guide
There’s optimism in the air among high-tech employers. According to
Statistics Canada, about 600,000 people are currently employed in
the information-technology sector, with the number expected to grow
by year’s end. Deloitte’s Technology "Fast 500" survey of 150
Canadian and US CEOs found 95 percent expect to increase hiring,
with 40 percent at levels between 25 and 100 percent. These chief
executives are an increasingly bullish lot. Close to three quarters
are very or extremely confident of maintaining high growth rates.
The survey underscored the importance of good talent to technology
firms. High-quality employees were cited as the factor that most
contributed to growth, followed by sound business strategy and
exceptional or unique products. And hiring and retaining qualified
employees was cited as the biggest operational challenge, followed
by developing a strong sales and marketing strategy, and keeping up
with market change.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete guide.
