Excerpted from the Austria Career Guide
Austria’s banking sector is
saturated, with a ratio of one branch per thousand citizens which is
four times the US level. As banking becomes increasingly more
globalized, local banks must become more competitive to survive. As
job reductions and reining in employee costs are frequent tools
towards this end, the jobs of the 75,000 employees in the Austrian
banking sector are not that secure.
Most Austrian banks are profitable,
however. In a recent report, the eight regional banks in the
southeastern Austrian province of Styria reported a 27.5 million
euro (35.2 million USD) operating profit for the year, up from 26.8
million euro (34.3 million USD) from the year before.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete guide.
