Greetings in
America are brief and involve a minimum of physical contact.
A firm but quick handshake, accompanied by a smile and direct eye contact,
is typical both as a greeting and as a farewell. If meeting for the first
time, the person may ask "What do you do?" In America this
is frequently asked as a topic of conversation and should not be interpreted
as a personal or intrusive question.
A belief in freedom and self-determination is at the core of the cultural
outlook in America. Thus, although those living in America do not inherently object
to rules, they are very quick to protest laws or restrictions that they
view as an infringement upon their personal rights.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete America
(USA) guide.
