Excerpted from the Germany Career Guide
There are significant
differences across the German labor market. Employment levels in the western
parts of Germany are far greater than in the east (with the exception
of Berlin and the southern region of the former German Democratic Republic).
There is generally higher employment in urban than in rural areas. Also,
unemployment is lower in the growing service industries than in traditional
German strongholds such as mining, construction, ship-, and other heavy
industries.
Germany is working to become more attractive to skilled workers from other
parts of the world. Currently, employment in Germany is experiencing a shortage of qualified
workers in areas including media, information technology, professional
services, and research and development.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete
Germany guide.
