Excerpted from the France Career Guide
Living
in France means adapting somewhat to the French ways. Rank most definitely has its privileges in France. Hierarchy is something
to be respected, and there are definite routes through life which one
follows according to ones rank in the hierarchy, of society and
in work. There is a rigid chain of command which must be respected. No
matter what field you are in, there is a hierarchy one must follow, a
proper way for communicating with particular individuals, and an expected
procedure to follow. Deviating from the proper or expected way will generally
cause problems, even if the intent is to bypass what appear to be difficulties
or obstacles. Bosses in France are expected to provide guidance and information
and make decisions; subordinates are expected to provide detailed information
and follow the decisions made by their superiors.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete France
guide.
