Job Search Overview
Networking and personal contacts
have become increasingly important for finding a job in Finland.
Referrals and leads have become one of the most successful ways to
locate open positions. Traditionally, job openings have been posted
in journals and newspapers, a method still considered very
effective; however, according to the Academic Career Services, only
30 percent of job openings in Finland today are published in the
newspapers or in the employment office, highlighting the importance
of personal contacts and one’s own initiative. The use of the
Internet as a resource has become very popular. Online recruitment
websites are considered fast and easy-to-use with daily updates
providing current information to jobseekers. Many corporations also
publish job openings on their company websites and some firms today
allow jobseekers to send an open job application over the Internet
for possible non-published open positions. In addition, the use of
staffing agencies has increased significantly. Government-sponsored
employment agencies are also very helpful in locating a job,
particularly outside the major cities.
Online Job Sites
Rekry.com

(Finnish)
Rekry.com is a popular job site. After a free registration, a
jobseeker can post a résumé/CV in the database and sign up for the
Vahtikoira (Watch Dog) service that sends Job Alert emails of
openings that match the jobseeker’s specifications. Visitors can
browse job advertisements by job type and location or use keywords.
Rekry.com lists a variety of technical openings in categories such
as pre-sales and technical support, product development, testing and
programming, documentation and technical writing. In addition to the
variety of business categories, Rekry.com also lists medical and
pharmaceutical, construction and real estate, healthcare and social
work jobs. Although Rekry.com is in Finnish only, many companies
also post openings in English.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete Finland guide.
